Province of Venice

Property Description

The Venetian Lagoon has been an inspiration to poets, writers, and artists for centuries. The Island was first inhabited in the fifth century and over the centuries has hosted many illustrious visitors. More recently, the island has been a source of creative input for the Austrian filmmaker Martin Potocnik, the Irish painter John Kelly, the contemporary artist Roger de Montebello and the celebrated author of books on Venetian music and culture, Allison Zurfluh.

There are 118 different islands scattered across the Venetian Lagoon so why not take the private boat and spend a day or two exploring them? Burano Island lies closest to Property 10716 and features picture-postcard, colorful houses, specialty lace, and stunning Byzantine mosaics in the first century Santa Maria Assunta cathedral. Murano island, famous for its hand-blown glass is only a short boat ride away. Ernest Hemingway lived and wrote in the northern area of the Lagoon and you can still find traces of his inspiration in the migrating birds that circle over the water.

Magical Venice is famous for its epic grandeur. A visitor can spend weeks exploring the picturesque canals, gondolas, art, historical palazzi, and narrow backstreets and still come away with a sense of not having seen everything there is to see. The oldest church in Venice, the magnificent Basilica Santa Maria Gloriosa Dei Frari, features a Titian altarpiece. Titian is interred here in the Frari, as locals call the Basilica and Donatello’s first documented work in Venice, his sculpture of St. John the Baptist is found in the first south choir chapel.

The Island is 20 minutes by boat from the city of Venice and Venice international airport is less than 10 km from the city center.
