Navigate mesas and slot canyons and walk through millions of years of history:
Ochre in the morning light, apricot by midday, dazzling pink at dusk, the geology of the Grand Staircase-Escalante couldn’t be more dramatic. Residing in 600 acres of the Colorado Plateau, and requiring an Act of Congress to be passed so it could be built here, Amangiri blends into countless untouched square miles of red rock country. In the last remnant of the truly wild West, this ‘mountain of peace’ is cradled by the greatest concentration of national parks in the United States – a staggering landscape of canyons, mesas, mountains, gorges, rapids and desert, with traces of human life dating back more than 10,000 years. In this grand theatre of nature, the modernist Suites of Amangiri and the tented Pavilions of nearby Camp Sarika offer an inspiring welcome to one of the world’s most dramatically secluded settings.

Adventures and experiences at Amangiri:
At the heart of the Grand Circle region, Amangiri is within easy reach of some of North America’s most magnificent protected areas, including the Grand Canyon, Bryce Canyon, Zion National Park and Monument Valley Tribal Park, home of the Navajo Nation. Occupying 243 hectares of this starkly beautiful landscape, Amangiri is as much a gateway to adrenaline-fuelled outdoor adventure as it is to the rich cultural heritage of the Navajo.

Discover Navajo heritage:
Amangiri is tightly connected to Utah’s Native American communities and offers a range of one-of-a-kind experiences that bring guests closer to the culture and history of the Navajo people. Activities range from Navajo-guided tours of the slot canyons and Monument Valley Tribal Park to powerful storytelling sessions and ritual dances by the fire.

Hiking and climbing:
Numerous trails lead from Amangiri to dramatic viewpoints and hidden wilderness hotspots. Graded by difficulty, guided hikes offer guests the opportunity to discover the geological wonders of this astonishing landscape. There’s no more thrilling way to get up close with Amangiri’s majestic rock formations than by taking on the challenge of the via ferrata. These ‘iron roads’ see intrepid adventurers using fixed rungs and cables embedded into the rock face to traverse dramatic gorges and sheer canyons.

The plateau on horseback:
Depart from the steps of Amangiri and explore the sweeping Utah desert landscape with Amangiri’s seasoned wranglers. Riding trails available both in the area immediately around the resort and beyond. More challenging rides include ridge-top hacks above a maze of ridges and canyons, where outlaws once hid and the cowboys of today still run cattle when the high country is buried in snow.

Hot-air ballooning:
Launching from Amangiri at sunrise, hot-air balloon flights offer extraordinary high-altitude views as the landscape below glows red and gold in the spreading sunlight. From the basket, 360º views take in Lake Powell, Navajo Mountain, the Vermillion Cliffs and the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument.

Exploring the slot canyons:
Carved into the earth’s surface by wind and water over millions of years, the slot canyons are some of the most striking geological features of the Colorado Plateau. Aman guides escort guests through these sinuous sandstone formations – an opportunity to admire the striking array of colours displayed on their walls.

Extraordinary formations at Lake Powell:
Mesmerically beautiful, the vast reservoir of Lake Powell encompasses more than 3,200km (2,000 miles) of shoreline, riddled with secluded bays and hidden canyons. Navigate these lesser-visited marvels by kayak, take a stand-up paddleboard across the glassy waters, or explore from the comfort of boat on a full- or half-day tour of the lake, taking in its most remarkable natural feature – the 290-foot freestanding arch known as the Rainbow Bridge.

Take to the skies:
The landscape of Canyon Country is even more incredible from on high. Amangiri has a private helipad and airstrip a team of expert pilots on call, making air tours by helicopter or plane easy to arrange. Travel to National Parks in minutes, discover the region’s unique geology from a new perspective, or fly to the top of a mesa for a once-in-a-lifetime yoga experience, 1,000 feet above the valley floor.

National Park adventures:
The Colorado Plateau is home to the highest concentration of National Parks in the United States, and Amangiri is a gateway to all. From the wildlife diversity of Zion and the hoodoo sandstone pillars of Bryce Canyon, to the vertiginous wonder of the Grand Canyon, the landscape is ripe for discovery, whether on self-guided expeditions or private tours led by Amangiri’s expert team.

Art of the desert:
Painting outside Broken Arrow Cave, close to ancient petroglyph rock art dating back millions of years, artist-in-residence Ulrike Arnold captures the austere splendor of Amangiri’s desert surroundings. From August to October, visit Ulrike and watch as she works with rock, sand, wind and rain to create abstract works formed from the Utah desert itself.

The concept of hózhó captures the notion of being in tune with the self and in harmony with the world, and it is this state that the Aman Spa seeks to induce in Amangiri guests.

Yoga on the rocks:
Take a short hike to the top of a monolithic rock formation for a one-of-a-kind yoga experience high above the valley floor. Amangiri’s yoga specialist guides guests through a personalised movement session with heart-stirring 360º views of the Navajo National Park – magnificent at any time, but sublime at sunrise.

Water therapy:
Experience the restorative power of submersion in the flotation pavilion, or visit the water pavilion for thermal therapies including a sauna, steam room and plunge pool. Adjoining the spa, a stone-lined step pool offers temperature-controlled water, cushioned seating, desert views, and an atmosphere conducive to mindful contemplation.

Aman Skincare:
Used in Amangiri’s spa therapies, the Aman Skincare family of products and rituals is built on the knowledge and wisdom of ancient wellness traditions and the healing power of nature. Grouped into three unique formulations – Grounding, Purifying and Nourishing – the product range is now available for guests to take home.

Dining at Amangiri:
Presenting sustainable, seasonal menus inspired by the culinary heritage of the Navajo and the American Southwest, Amangiri’s main restaurant and dining venues are open to resort guests and non-residents with reservations.

The Dining Room:
Looking out across the plains through floor-to-ceiling windows, Amangiri’s main restaurant centres on an open-plan kitchen and wood-fired oven. It offers breakfast, lunch and dinner, with especially breathtaking views at sunrise and sunset. Served indoors or on the pool terrace, the menus showcase local ingredients, taking inspiration from Native American cuisine, tempered with modern global influences. A four-course ‘Spirit of the Journey’ tasting menu with matched wines pays gastronomic tribute to the five tribes of the region.

The Fireside Pavilion:
For both private events and everyday dining, this intimate, open-air pavilion is the ideal spot for dinner beneath the star-spangled desert sky. Next to the main swimming pool, beside a grand central fireplace, Amangiri’s chef serves food fresh from the open grill.

The Chinle Site:
A short drive, hike or horseback ride from Amangiri, the Chinle Site provides a unique and atmospheric setting for private dining amid the natural serenity of the desert. Dinners at the site are often enriched by performances from Navajo musicians and storytellers.

The Desert Lounge:
Open to the elements, the Desert Lounge lets the scenery take centre-stage, with views of the majestic mesas towering over the scrubland plains. Ideal for cocktail soirées, special-occasion dinners, and moments of quiet contemplation.
