Although Bhutan is very small, it has a surprising range of climates. The very far north-western region (in the most mountainous region) has a polar climate, whereas the southern plains and foothills are subtropical. The weather is best in spring (March to April) and again in autumn (September to November). The Himalayan views are considered best during the autumn months, particularly October. These months constitute the official high season.

VALLEY VIEW ROOMS  –  Among luxury hotels in Bhutan, few have rooms with views like those at COMO Uma Punakha. Our Valley View rooms—some with outdoor terraces—are light and airy with king-size or twin beds, sheesham-wood furniture and bright wall paintings by local artisans. These rooms also have enough space for a comfortable lounge area, deep bathtubs and a separate shower stall.

ONE-BEDROOM VILLAS  –  Private villas in Bhutan do not all offer such large living areas and expansive terraces as those found at COMO Uma Punakha. With a separate living room, dressing room and bathroom, this elegant one-bedroom, standalone house, has French windows opening up to the valley view from the bedroom. Outside, the villa has its own glade, where rhododendrons and hydrangeas frame the view from your terrace. From the bathtub, there are more dramatic Punakha Valley views.

COMO VILLA  –  Among villas in Punakha, few are as stately as the COMO Villa at Uma Punakha. Our headline luxury two-bedroom villa has a large living and dining area opening on to a panoramic sweep of the Punakha Valley. Two double bedrooms flank each side, affording dramatic views and welcome privacy—including from the large outdoor terrace. Interiors brim with Bhutanese design details and understated comfort. In the bedrooms, luxurious Indian cotton bedcovers have hand-stitched patterns paying homage to Bhutan’s Buddhist culture and colours, while hand-knotted rugs come from nearby Nepal.

DINING AND CUISINE

Much of our produce comes from local farmers-Punakha is considered one of the most bountiful valleys in Bhutan-which means we benefit from fresh vegetable, fruit and dairy products every day. All of this is used in traditional dishes as well as our international menus.

BUKHARI  – Bukhari is our Punakha restaurant at the heart of COMO Uma Punakha – named after the traditional Bhutanese fireplace. Lunch dishes feature international comfort foods such as pasta and salads, while dinner is a gastronomic treat. Menus are based on seasonal, local produce sourced by chef Tshering Lhaden, who delivers both Bhutanese and international dishes with strong flavours and finesse.
