This is a late 18th century traditional stone farmhouse located in the heart of the Lubéron region of Provence. Set amongst 20 hectares of its own lavender fields, the property has been restored to offer all the comforts of a modern luxury holiday home, with the famous perched villages of Bonnieux and Lacoste and views of the Mont Ventoux as its backdrop.

The house comfortably sleeps 13 in six bedrooms and a family room. The landscaped garden includes an 18×6-meter heated pool, several terraces and courtyards, as well as several outdoor seating areas including an open fire pit. The property was acquired by its current owners in 2011 and underwent three years of extensive renovation and restoration under the stewardship of famed local architect Hugues Bosc and landscape artist Michel Sémini. The guiding principles of the restoration were authenticity, functionality, flow and comfort.

The original exterior sandstone walls and traditional shuttered windows were restored while, indoors, guests will discover a combination of classic architecture of limestone walls, regional old stone and antique timber beams combined with fresh, contemporary spaces punctuated by metal lintels, large glass framed windows and cement floors. The house is ideally located for visiting many of Provence famous and historical sites, sampling a variety of excellent restaurants, shopping for fresh produce or art and antiques in its numerous village markets, playing many sports and discovering Provence and the Rhône Valley’s countless wineries.

The house is divided into three main living areas:

The North Wing. comprising the main entrance, a sitting room and a library separated by a two-way chimney, a double bedroom suite on the ground floor; four bedrooms on the first floor (two double, one twin and one single) and a large family room on the second floor.

The South Wing. includes a 10×5 m (500 square feet) kitchen, a pantry and back-kitchen, and a full-sized laundry room on the ground floor, while the first floor is devoted to the master suite making up the entire length of this pavilion.

The Dining Hall. connects both buildings and its five-meter (17-foot) table is perfect for indoor or formal dining.

Much holiday time in Provence is spent preparing, consuming and discussing food and wine! Le Fer à Cheval’s kitchen takes full advantage of all the fare Provence has to offer with its large stone counter and oversized cooker. It is equipped with all the necessities a chef might need, including gas, electric, steam and microwave ovens, dishwashers, double-doored refrigerators, and a wine fridge. The property offers a multitude of options for meals.

Outdoors & Garden. The house is surrounded by a landscaped garden of one hectare designed by landscape artist Michel Sémini that includes a heated pool and its surrounding deck area, a lounge and terraces. Children are afforded their own lawn area designed for play. Available on site are many games including two football (soccer) goals, a basketball hoop, a table tennis table, a set of boules, and six bicycles of all sizes. A Tennis court has been added for 2020.

The morning sun rising in the inner courtyards make it a great place to start the day with an expresso and newspaper in hand, whilst the outdoor fire pit and seating area are a perfect venue for after-dinner drinks.
