Architect Ed Tuttle was inspired by Ujung Water Palace and the property’s graceful buildings are connected by frangipani-lined walkways through the treetops. Stilted suites rest high on the hillside with spectacular sea views, a three-tier infinity pool cascades at the property’s heart, and down on the shore, the Beach Club leads to a private black-sand beach.

SUITES AT AMANKILA

Elevated on stilts to maximise sea views and nestled on a verdant hillside against the dramatic backdrop of Mt Agung, Amankila’s Suites overlook the waters of the Lombok Strait and a private beach.

Amankila Suite  –  Overlooking the beach and Amuk Bay, the 660-square-metre (7,104 square feet) two-bedroom Amankila Suite offers a private butler service, large terrace and aquamarine-tiled pool.

Indrakila Suite  –  Offering its own swimming pool and lounging bale (pavilion), the 249-square-metre (2,680 square feet) Indrakila Suite enjoys sea and temple views. It can be joined to Suite 35 to accommodate larger parties.

Kilasari Suite –  Situated high on the hillside overlooking the Lombok Strait, the 302-square-metre (3,251 square foot) Kilasari Suite has a 12-metre (39 feet) private infinity pool overlooking the mountainside as well as an expansive terrace.

Pool Suite  –  Offering consummate privacy, a number of 204-square-metre (2,196 square feet) Pool Suites can be connected with Ocean and Garden Suites via the pool courtyard to accommodate larger groups.

Ocean Suite  –  Spacious, stilted Ocean Suites face the Lombok Strait against the backdrop of Mt Agung. Elegantly spread over 94 square metres (1,104 square feet) with expansive terraces, they offer guests exceptional privacy.

Garden Suite  –  Designed to offer guests privacy and maximise spectacular sea and hillside views, the 94-square-metre (1,011 square feet) stilted Garden Suites offer an expansive outdoor terrace.

Infinity Pool Suite –  Our three unique infinity pool suites, all slightly different in layout, each set high on the hillside overlooking the Lombok Straight equipped with nine-metre private pools and views of Amuk Bay.

DINING

Amankila’s ocean-view Restaurant focuses on locally sourced ingredients. Traditional local techniques are combined with contemporary cooking styles for revitalising cuisine. Ducks are raised at the resort’s free-range farm in Jasri village; herbs are grown in Amankila’s garden; and cold smoking is done in the smokehouse. Vegetables and exotic fruits are the result of the rich volcanic soil spread beneath Mt Agung.

Visiting chefs evenings  –  On several dates in 2020, some of the world’s most accomplished and creative chefs arrive in Bali for a series of culinary events designed to bring unique flavours and international gastronomic expertise to the tables of Amankila. On 10 and 12 April, Melbourne-based Michelin-starred chef Victor Liong returns to Amankila, showcasing his distinctive and progressive take on Chinese cuisine, using the best of Bali’s locally sourced and sustainable produce. On 13 June, the Michelin-starred Danish chef Mads Refslund, co-founder of Noma, arrives in Amankila to share with guests the fresh, foraged flavours of new Nordic cuisine.

Local boats deliver daily fresh fish from the surrounding seas  – Suckling pigs are locally reared, and the Indonesian Tokusen wagyu beef is of the finest international quality.

Gaze out at the ocean with a sundowner beside the tiered main pool  –  Mangosteen cocktails and homemade ginger beer are refreshingly cool, while the locally made arak spirit and beer complement sunsets equally well.

Amankila’s bale, beyond the resort’s grounds, is ideal for picnics after a trek or temple visit  –  Tirta Sari Bale is in the hills of East Bali, with views over rice fields, banana trees and Amuk Bay.

Natural ingredients are used in traditional Balinese baths, scrubs and wraps – available in the privacy of guest Suites, the massage pavilion, a beach bale or secluded open-air spot with tropical canopy.

Holistic practitioners offer treatments ranging from hypnotherapy to reiki  –  Healers, trained to facilitate deep transformation, utilise a variety of tools to assist with awakening and healing.

Amankila’s speciality – the cinta therapy, for individuals and couples  –  A full-body exfoliation cleanses and purifies before a warm bath scented with rose and flower essences opens the chakra. To finish, an aromatherapy body massage infuses a sense of harmony.
