Villa Terra nova is a grand and refined stately villa nestling in the hills between Tuscany and Umbria. This idyllic property has outwardly changed little since the late 17th century when the palazzo’s original owners gazed from the romantic Romeo and Juliet balconies. Nowadays inside it is an opulent temple of luxury and comfort, offering a pool, aromatic treatments and spacious bedroom suites. Each of the three floors has its own library, and the reading selections reflects the owner’s international taste –  Secret Gardens of Napoli, the journals of Nicholas and Alexandra, a biography of Edith Wharton, Kobbe’s Complete Opera Book, a commemorative photo book about Louis Vuitton. Florentine painters spent over two years hand-painting all the walls and ceilings of this property using the colors that most probably would have graced its original walls – pale greens, violets, yellows. Inspired decors are a feature of each room, all of them conveying the loving attention to detail that guests feel everywhere. The beds are hand-wrought iron, made by local artisans and because of their grand size and weight, were assembled only when they reached their respective rooms.  All the doors and many of the wardrobes and book shelves in the house are also hand-carved by local artisans.

In spite of all this interior sumptuousness, Villa Terra nova is most of all about the breathtaking views from the hillside lawn and terraces and seeing the colors changing with the time of day. With a staff of twenty people guests are completely allowed to relax, breathe deeply and just enjoy it all.

AREA

This Villa  is situated in the Valtiberina (Upper Tiber Valley) a wonderful destination still off the tourist beaten track. The Valley forms the eastern border of Tuscany where it meets Emilia Romagna, The Marches and Umbria. It takes its name from the River Tiber (Tevere) that flows throughout its length and before continuing on into Umbria. It is a region of open vistas and beautiful Tuscan hill towns with spectacular views. The Valtiberina was the point of interaction between different civilizations, the Umbrian and the Etruscan, the Byzantine and the Lombard. The bishops of Arezzo, the “Signori” of Rimini and the Montefeltro, the popes of Rome and finally the Florentine fought for centuries over these mountains and this valley. The Roman patricians at the time of Augustus discovered the beauty of the area and built several villas. Feudal lords and abbots came later to construct castles and monasteries. Michelangelo and Piero della Francesca were born here. Intact walled towns such as Anghiari or river centers such as Pieve Santo Stefano, Camaldolesian abbeys and Franciscan convents, medieval country churches and castles reflect the eventful and turbulent history of the Valtiberina.
